Nevada Gaming Officials Investigating Double Exposure Betting Ring

The Nevada Gaming Control Board (NGCB) is investigating a suspected double exposure betting ring that may have been operating in the state for years.

According to NGCB officials, the ring is believed to have taken millions of dollars in bets on games where both of the dealer's cards were exposed. In a typical double exposure game, the player has a chance to win even money if they bet on either the first or second card being revealed.

"This type of activity can have a serious negative impact on the integrity of our gaming industry," said NGCB Chairman A.G. Burnett in a statement. "We are committed to rooting out any and all illegal activity and will take whatever actions are necessary to protect the public."

The investigation is still ongoing and no arrests have been made at this time.

How to Play Double Exposure: The Rules of the Game

Double exposure is a card game that is played with two decks of cards. The aim of the game is to score points by taking pairs of cards from the two decks and putting them together to form poker hands. The player who scores the most points wins the game.

The Basics

To begin, each player is dealt five cards from one deck, and four cards from the other deck are placed face up in the middle of the table. The face-up card in the middle of the table is called the widow.

The player who is dealer starts play by flipping over the top card from their deck. If this card matches one of the four face-up cards in the middle, they can take that card and put it into their hand. If they don't match, they turn over another card from their deck and continue until they find a match.

When they find a match, they put it into their hand, then discard one card from their hand back onto the table. This continues until all of the cards in their hand have been played. At this point, play passes to their left and that player flips over their top card and repeats the process.

If at any time a player has no more cards in their deck, they must draw cards from the widow until they have five cards again. Play then proceeds as normal. One important rule to remember is that players are not allowed to put more than three matching cards into their hand (e.g., if all four of the face-up cards in the middle are hearts, you cannot take all four). If you would like to keep all four hearts, you must put two other non-matching cards into your hand as well.

The Scoring System

In Double Exposure, different poker hands are worth different points:

  • Pair = 1 point
  • Two pairs = 2 points
  • Three of a kind = 3 points
  • Straight = 4 points
  • Flush = 5 points
  • Full house = 6 points
  • Four of a kind = 7 points * Straight flush = 8 points

At the end of each round, players total up how many points they have scored and record this on a piece of paper or scoreboard. The winner is usually declared when one player reaches a certain number of points (e.g., 10 or 20), or when one player has more points than everyone else combined.
